Every time I have a passenger, the seat belt ends up like this. Then it vibrates against the door until I dive across and untwist it. Its literally every single passanger. Any ideas on how to stop it. Vibrations, squeaks, chirps and any noise drives me insane while I drive.
Keeps them from breaking stuff too. The amount of times people just pull out my rear shades to do it blows my mind. Grown adults are more fascinated by them than children.
My 130i is worse (keep in mind age probably has something to do with this) but instead of getting stuck where it is for you, on my 130, on the side support thing of seat and sticks out, been stabbed by the belt buckle the first few weeks of owning her lol
The dreaded moment when you’re listening to music loudly and think you may have heard something so you quickly turn it down to listen and spot the source of this mysterious sound…but you don’t hear it. You carry on, turn the music back up. Life is good.
THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN
I put a pair of these in my M4 because the buckles would bang and rub against the interior plastic causing scuffs.
The fit was snug but they work well.
I always hold the buckle of a seat belt all the way up until it’s fully retracted so I don’t scratch and scuff up the side panels, but a lot of folks just press the button and let that sucker fly which annoys me as well, I think I see a little scuffing down lower where the door meets the panel which I’d guess is from that exact thing. Need to train your passengers right before they unbuckle every time I guess.
I can empathize with that, it was a solemn moment as I installed the car seats in the like-new back seat of my ride after I bought it last year, but no choice other than to accept the inevitable wear and tear since it’s my daily driver.
I had a car seat in the back of my e90 for about 4 years, the leather bounced back really well when I removed the car seat to sell it. YMMV, maybe it depends on the style of seat and kid.
Yeah true, I’m not worried about the car seat itself doing anything to the back and I put towels under them and on headrest to help prevent creases, but it’s the kids in the car seats scuffing up everything and tracking dirt and snow and whatever else. I do draw the line at eating back there since any longer trips are taken in the wife’s SUV where they can eat and mess up whatever they want for all I care 😂
So yeah. Every time after I have a passenger. The rattle. But it’s only because it does not return to its home position well on it’s own, reaching over and flipping it restores sanity and quiet. But I wonder how did they possible miss this?
I’m so glad it’s not just me.
It is supposed to lie gently on the seat curve… I am not saying it’s not a flaw but I too hated that constant drumbeat. Until I started holding the other end while pushing the button.
TLDR Initial kickback throws the buckle into cavity, if you slow that initial kickback down by holding the belt when releasing it shall gently come to rest on seat back curve.
Hate it but love it!
A touch of tape and or a door cabinet bumper will buffer if not fully eliminate that wildly aggravating rattle.
In the meantime, until you have a working fix...buckle it.
My 2013 Pathfinder had an adhesive backed felt-like pad stuck on the column where the buckle would touch the panel. I thought that was a simple and non-intrusive solution.
OP address it in their comment:

There is usually a plastic thing that goes around the belt and you can slide it up so the buckle doesn’t get trapped down in the door. It’s supposed to stop the metal part of the buckle from dropping so low on the belt and getting stuck like this.
Something like this is usually stock on most cars:

this is even worse in my car (6 series) where the doors close automatically and the seat belt gets stuck between door and seat, the leather panel on the door is already torn.
Oh trust me, I know. But I will straight up pull over on the highway if there is something rattling in the car. I've stopped a trip over loose change in the back floor board. Or something in the trunk that got loose.
You could 'click/buckle' all the belts, even when there is no passenger. I do this to the belts in the back seat of my car and some think that's strange but it works.

Get the 2 inch wide Velcro stickers and put a strip where it usually rubs. This is what the dealership service department will do.
TIL - I've been wondering why my F36 has velcro on the B pillar on the passenger side since I got it.
exactly! every car we own...
I'm thinking this is the way.
Passengers in the trunk, that’s what I do..
I do like this idea the most. It solves a lot of problems.
Keeps them from breaking stuff too. The amount of times people just pull out my rear shades to do it blows my mind. Grown adults are more fascinated by them than children.
I was never allowed to touch the shades growing up… now I feel like they still never should be touched as an adult 🥲😂
This is the way
Ask passengers not to wear belt. I had the exact same problem.
Or just cut it off
Excuse me, where’s the safety belt?
Safety?
Its a damn bmw, the word safety doesnt mean anything inside it
Don't worry about it. It has airbags, you'll be fine.
Where we’re going, we don’t need safety.
I'll make sure to do that. Thanks for the advice.
DING. DING. DING. DING. DING. DING. DING. DING.
Code that right out.
That’s actually a great idea idk why I never considered it before. I’ll be looking into that asap
Tell them to get their own damn car.
It's not petty, it drives me insane too!
Same. Irritating.
Install some Dual 12" subs, that fixed my problem.
I’ve had several bmws and noises drive me nuts too. I would plug it in when they get out. Latch it.
Gawd rattles bug me so much too. Good luck
This exact thing drove me insane until i could figure out what it was. Velcro is def the way to go
I bought sheets of felt that have an adhesive on one side.
Stick a pad there. Something like soft so it doesn’t vibrate
Will a Tampon work?
Yessssir
My 1 series does this too and it drives me nuts

This fucks with me every other day too, bro. Definitely not the only one.
could keep it plugged in after the passenger gets out
I feel your pain man. Happens in mine occasionally and it really grinds my gears.
Also, take that little black thing and raise it up far enough that the buckle rests on the fabric.
Side note... what a wild mixture of like 9-10 different grey materials in one small location.
Huh, I didn't realize until you said something.
BMW is the master at this. Cramming lots of different things in a small space. Cool engineering.
Totally. Things we take for granted.
She's totaled, bro
I think I can save her on this one. God forbid something rattles I can't find though.

Every damn time!
AOZBZ Car Safety Belt Buckle... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076F91VNB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I'm definitely going to try these
They work for their intended purpose, but can be a little fiddly when putting the seatbelt on since they kind of grip the belt.
This is pretty damn brilliant. On it!

My most common passengers are my wife and my 12 year old... I have to pick my battles. Not a hill I'm dying on.
I can empathize with that, it was a solemn moment as I installed the car seats in the like-new back seat of my ride after I bought it last year, but no choice other than to accept the inevitable wear and tear since it’s my daily driver.
Mine too, I put an insane amount of miles on it lol. I'm gonna test how sturdy it is lol. 1500 miles a week.
I had a car seat in the back of my e90 for about 4 years, the leather bounced back really well when I removed the car seat to sell it. YMMV, maybe it depends on the style of seat and kid.

I have TRex arms. I'm risking everyone life when I reach over to flip it.
Try to hold out until you get to a stoplight or stop sign!
I can't make the music loud enough not to hear it!!!
I hate passengers.

Maybe a small piece of felt glued on?
I was thinking that too possibly. I would just have to get it in just the right spot lol.
Before I read your comment I thought that was what you were going to complain about and was thinking “yeah fair, I’m not sure I could unsee that”
Some folks have wrapped the lower bit in black alcantara to help deaden the rattle. Unfortunately just a design oversight.
The only oversight is on the passenger that just lets that sucker fly off and slam the side panel without care
My 2013 Pathfinder had an adhesive backed felt-like pad stuck on the column where the buckle would touch the panel. I thought that was a simple and non-intrusive solution.
The rattle.
I have this problem. Move the seat forward or back so the belt can’t get trapped.
Thats what I thought too! But, if I move the seat any my wife knows and it goes right back lol.
Me thinking it was about the door rubber and the black piece of plastic where they collide
No I feel your pain. I do that every time. I have to fix the seatbelt. I feel better now that there are others like that.
This is how I knew they took my new M5 for a (joy)ride before I took delivery
Also present on my 2022 G30 5series. Also fixed with velcro.
Not petty. Incredibly frustrating. Curiously it is an issue on some BMWs and not others =/
So you know my wife?
Cut it. But then the car would be totaled :/
You can attach a little something to the belt so it won’t retract quite so far. Something like this: [Car Seat Belt Adjuster](https://a.co/d/f5nB62o)
These are good problems to have. Some people have to walk. Or (barf) take transit.
What exactly is the complaint
OP address it in their comment: [https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/comments/10lrjs0/comment/j5yhlx1/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/comments/10lrjs0/comment/j5yhlx1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
I wrapped some velvet around that area. Car interior is dark enough and I don’t even notice it, other than it carrying out its intended purpose.
You may set the seat in a more forward position. The side bolsters may prevent the belt from slipping back.
I think there are nicer looking seat belt buckles covers made of soft rubber that might also solve your issue, or at least mitigate it
Looks like material (not plastic) in the top half. Have you tried moving the buckle stopper further up the belt?
That works until someone uses it. It slides right back.
Get one with the retracting seatbelt thing
There is usually a plastic thing that goes around the belt and you can slide it up so the buckle doesn’t get trapped down in the door. It’s supposed to stop the metal part of the buckle from dropping so low on the belt and getting stuck like this.

Its there but when someone uses it, it slides back and when they get out we are in the same boat.
That’s a bummer man. What about adding the ones that don’t move? The button ones that attach like a pin
this is even worse in my car (6 series) where the doors close automatically and the seat belt gets stuck between door and seat, the leather panel on the door is already torn.
It is
Oh trust me, I know. But I will straight up pull over on the highway if there is something rattling in the car. I've stopped a trip over loose change in the back floor board. Or something in the trunk that got loose.
I don't even know what I'm looking at
Stop it
Which model is this
330i
The buckle is facing the wrong side of the belt. Just fold the belt up a bit and get it pulled round to the other side.
You could 'click/buckle' all the belts, even when there is no passenger. I do this to the belts in the back seat of my car and some think that's strange but it works.
my driver side belt was installed wonky somehow, and the belt is always twisted, lol
Literally Undriveable
Thanks for this post. Comforting to know I'm not alone...🥲🥹
Not petty at all. This has been a problem in BMWs for decades.
