I always thought it was the flames of war, since the blades of chaos are imbued with the flames of Ares (from God of War: Ascension) and since war can exist anywhere that’s why the flames never die and rekindle when Kratos (a former/current god of war) touches them.

Good point I just watched a video on Greek fire and instantly thought of kratos
