Tammy will be back in the premier, but I don't know if he'll want to go back to Chelsea. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but he spent a lot of years there not getting opportunities and may want to steer clear.
Definitely didn't, I was just focusing on players that transferred directly to the clubs where they had success, where Gnabry didn't go to Bayern directly
I don’t mind the Henry transfer. We weren’t going to deliver him a Champions League win.
Two obvious ones are Giroud and RVP; Giroud captured a CL, EL, and FA Cup, and RVP obviously was the linchpin in that United side.
It’s harder to lump Oxlade-Chamberlain into the same category. Did he capture a League and CL? Yeah. Was he at all integral to those successes, or is he an extraordinarily valuable player for Liverpool? Not particularly.
I haven’t had my morning coffee and I missed the RVP part, thinking you were referring to Oxlade-Chamberlain! I thought to myself hey, I’ve supported Arsenal for twenty-plus, seasons blend together, but I don’t remember that! Hahaha.
These people underneath talking like as if RVP or Nasri or Cole eben yourself Goroud went of to make a name for themselves after their transfer. But these players were already established. Especially Henry, RIP to whoever commented that. The one I see I Gnabry. Came up, injured, sold young, flourished in the best German side and came great. Who else have we sold similarly whose done so? (Knock on wood Saliba stays).
Edit poor drunk spelling and grammar.
Ah, the PTSD is kicking in...
Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Ince, Kanouté, Defoe (arguably)
Basically the entire squad from between 2000-2003 apart from Ince
Not a Southampton fan, but haven’t seen them mentioned…
Tim Flowers
Wayne Bridge,
Virgil Van Dijk,
Ben White,
Tyrone Mings,
Callum Chambers,
Jose Fonte,
Toby Alderweireld
Dennis Wise,
Oxlade Chamberlain,
Morgan Sneiderlin
Dusan Tadic,
Sadio Mane,
Alan Shearer,
Theo Walcott,
Gareth Bale,
Danny Ings,
Adam Lallana
Not sure Alderweireld can really be counted since we only had him on loan, spurs nicked him before we could sign him permanently. Could cry looking at the rest of the list though!
He did win everything he didn’t win at Liverpool once he left!!!! One of two players (Mata) to hold the European Championship, Champions League, World Cup and Europa League all at the same time.
For us I’d honestly say James Tarkowski or Stuart Dallas. Both were good for us, but at their next clubs turned it up a notch.
Watkins, Benhrama, and Maupay are good, but not sure if they have evolved to the next level at their new club.
Remember, Dallas and Tark were sold to Championship sides not PL teams like the other three. Dallas was sold because he didn’t want to sign another contract so it limited how much we could get for him and Tark just down right refused to play for us anymore and boycotted a game. The fact we still got 4.4 mil actually surprise me.
Lastly, it actually makes sense that their transfer fees were a lot lower because the other three were offensive players who normally cost more and already showed that they were great players that could compete against the best in the Championship. When we sold Dallas and Tark we had only been in the Championship 2 seasons and our track record of players being sold and going on to being successful at a higher level (either at a better Championship team or in the PL) was limited.
Cesc Fabregas - to think that one of our best young signings from overseas only won an FA Cup and a Community Shield (believe me I didn’t want to count this as a trophy) Is crazy to think about but we failed him in providing a squad to match his ambition and talent
The fact he went on to win the trophies he did, I can’t argue that he wasn’t right to leave Arsenal
🤷🏾♂️😩
Nottingham Forest Fan.
In recent memory its got to be Matty Cash going to Villa. Guy is owing it week in week out. Was a class player for us and worth alot more than what we sold him for in the end.
Also got players like Michael Dawson and Andy Reid who did eventually come back.
I went to Nottingham Uni 'back in't day' and one of my best mates was a die-hard Forest fan. Dawson and Reid were breaking through then and he swore by them. Raved on and on about how good they were.
Matty Cash obviously making a name for himself now too!
He plays well for a big team in a smaller league, no regrets to be honest, just didn't fit despite being a decent player. The 90's 2000's with Carrick, Joe Cole, Lampard, Defoe, Rio Ferdinand etc are more relevant.
Criminal. His performance against Chelsea while marking hazard 100% of the game and bagging an assist and a goal should have cemented him in the squad.
At least we made some good money out of most of the players above. Danny Rose, Fabian Delph, Alan Smith, Jermain Beckford in many ways annoyed me more as we were forced to sell them on the cheap or let them go for free because of our position. We made considerable profit on Ferdinand after we bought him as the biggest defensive transfer in world football.
We've had a few of these recently at Wolves, first ones which come to mind are Pedro Goncalves and Vitinha.
Jota is obviously a success at Liverpool but i'd argue he was a success at Wolves too so i'm not sure if that counts.
I think luckily in recent times more players who leave end up being mediocre than going on to bigger success, look at Barry Douglas, Helder Costa, Ivan Cavaleiro, Leo Bonatini, Matt Doherty, all great for Wolves and just sort of dropped off the map after leaving.
The one that Arsenal fans really don't understand is Serge Gnabry.
He was always the exceptional talent in his age group, he was contributing to the first team and there was an obvious route to him become a regular in the squad while he developed.
Meanwhile, we were playing Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi. All good players in their own ways but their development had plateaued at Arsenal.
Gnabry went on loan and really struggled at West Brom, and from the outside it looks like the club made their decision to keep him/let him go based solely on that unsuccessful loan spell.
So while Walcott, Ox and Iwobi did their thing, we brought in Ozil and Alexis Sánchez. There just didn't appear to be space for Gnabry, so we shipped him for a nominal fee.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. We sold Ox and Iwobi for a combined £80m, which turned us a serious profit for players who weren't exactly setting the world alight.
But once Gnabry showed up at Bayern, Arsenal fans started asking questions. What did they see from the outside, that we hadn't seen from within?
Now he's a first choice player for one of the best teams in the world, he mauled Tottenham singlehandedly, and he plays for Germany.
What would have happened if we gave Gnabry a fair share of all those minutes we gave to Walcott, Ox and Iwobi?
We'll never know, but it still leaves Arsenal fans scratching their heads as to why we let such a special talent slip through our fingers.
Tldr; Serge Gnabry is class and AFC misplayed their hand with him.
Hallier, payet, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand, jermaine defoe, Frank lampard, tevez, macherano ect. I can't even imagine what west ham would have been if they had kept all those players during their heydays
Not a recent one but Chris Sutton was one of our main forward threats in the inaugural premier league season where we finished 3rd. He went on to sign and then win the premier league with Blackburn Rovers
Barry, Milner and Young. Downing to an extent. Basically built the England midfield for a couple of tournaments.
Also scattered over the years: Gana/Gueye, Yorke, Platt, Albrighton.
Dwight Yorke who almost had a manager put a shotgun to his head when he said he wanted to go to Man Utd.
Went on to win everything at Club level. Including being part of the famous duo in the treble season.
I think De Bruyne and Salah might "win" this question for us...
Robben too tbh
I strongly believe Tammy & Tomori will join this list
Yeah Tammy's coming back. Lukaku wants out and we're not getting Haaland so our options are very limited!
Tammy will be back in the premier, but I don't know if he'll want to go back to Chelsea. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but he spent a lot of years there not getting opportunities and may want to steer clear.
The issue is the shiny new toys are pretty much obliged to play over him(Werner and then Rom) because of the price tags on strikers
Tammy will be back
Hopefully, I can't survive with our current strikers.
Lakaka too, but you came back to your senses
and now he wants out
Or Lukaku, although he’s back now… but with a hefty price tag
“What player did your club sell who went on to be successful elsewhere?” Yes
Ndombele is next
I could definitely see that
Fat chance. His positioning without the ball is poor.
Amen.
Who is there other than modric and bale?
Sol Campbell, Gary Lineker
Sol wasn’t sold. He was stolen, a free gift as it were.
He doesn’t deserve to be named
Tottenham fans when they see they see Sol Campbell written down: 'that's a weird way of spelling Judas Iscariot'
JUDAS
Lineker was sold by spurs to that Japanese team wasn't he? Does that count as success after they sold him?
Teddy Sheringham, scored in the 1999 FA Cup Final and 1999 Champions League Final for Manchester United after leaving Spurs.
Trippier, eriksen, walker
Trippier and Eriksen both won a league title the year they left Spurs. Foyth won the Europa League.
Berba and Carrick come to mind
Walker
Teddy sheringham, berbatov, carrick
Juan Foyth
Olivier Giroud, went and won the damn Europa League and Champions League titles at Chelsea!
Van Persie to Man Utd must have been a sore point as well
Yea it's not hard to make a list Ox Cole Even Henry to Barca in a way
Dont forget gnabry !
Definitely didn't, I was just focusing on players that transferred directly to the clubs where they had success, where Gnabry didn't go to Bayern directly
I don’t mind the Henry transfer. We weren’t going to deliver him a Champions League win. Did he capture a League and CL? Yeah. Was he at all integral to those successes, or is he an extraordinarily valuable player for Liverpool? Not particularly.
RVP- Don't forget he carried arsenal the season before he left.
I haven’t had my morning coffee and I missed the RVP part, thinking you were referring to Oxlade-Chamberlain! I thought to myself hey, I’ve supported Arsenal for twenty-plus, seasons blend together, but I don’t remember that! Hahaha.
He was already well established tbf no?
Didn't see this but made a post.
Nasri to City as well! Dont forget Toure.
Fabregas, van persie, samir nasri....
I thunk u forgot Ashley Cole.
Thierry Henry
These people underneath talking like as if RVP or Nasri or Cole eben yourself Goroud went of to make a name for themselves after their transfer. But these players were already established. Especially Henry, RIP to whoever commented that. The one I see I Gnabry. Came up, injured, sold young, flourished in the best German side and came great. Who else have we sold similarly whose done so? (Knock on wood Saliba stays). Edit poor drunk spelling and grammar.
At least he went on to worse things by starring in those Cinch adverts.
Ah, the PTSD is kicking in... Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Ince, Kanouté, Defoe (arguably) Basically the entire squad from between 2000-2003 apart from Ince
No Tevez?
They didn’t sell him, because they didn’t own him…but we don’t talk about that in case Sheffield Utd are listening 😉
What about mascherano then lol!
Declan Rice coming to that list very soon too😉
Dec is already a success
Diogo Jota, loved that guy
hell yeah!! but some people didnt share your opinion: "41M for Jota thank you liverpool" you're welcome lmao
I remember thinking he was going to score every time he touched the ball outside of the 18.
Jota's a beast, isn't he? Great talent. He's no Steve Bull mind...
Robbie Keane and Joleon Lescott also spring to mind.
Especially with Jimenez going down so soon after it hurt even more
Rooney, Arteta and Lukaku.
If we include current form and not just overall performance, Stones has been pretty successful too
If you've got Lukaku and arteta on the list stones should definitely be on there.. he's won like 10 major trophies
Exactly. Wasn't too happy when he left but we didn't get fleeced and he was meant for Europe so good for him
Artetas first season for us was incredible tbh, I wish we got him 2 years sooner lol
Aaron Ramsdale (x2), Kyle Walker, Kyle Naughton, Harry Maguire, David Brooks, Dominic Calvert-Lewin
>Harry Maguire You can have him again the fucking slabhead
TAKE HIM BACK THE KNOBHEAD
I'd happily have him back
Mate, that is a right list to be fair. You forgot Brian Deane though...legend!
Yeah, I wanted to keep it to the last 10 or so years though to ease pain!
Not a Southampton fan, but haven’t seen them mentioned… Tim Flowers Wayne Bridge, Virgil Van Dijk, Ben White, Tyrone Mings, Callum Chambers, Jose Fonte, Toby Alderweireld Dennis Wise, Oxlade Chamberlain, Morgan Sneiderlin Dusan Tadic, Sadio Mane, Alan Shearer, Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Danny Ings, Adam Lallana
Surprised none of us commented, because I personally love telling everyone how good we could have been if we held onto our players!
Not sure Alderweireld can really be counted since we only had him on loan, spurs nicked him before we could sign him permanently. Could cry looking at the rest of the list though!
They could have done a Leicester looking at the players that they've had in the last decade alone
You forgot to mention Vestergaard and Bertrand. 😒
Did either go on to better things?
The two best players in the league right now
Suarez, Ings, Alonso, Mascherano Edit: Suso, Aspas, Gulasci, Coady, Cresswell
I like the Aspas and Coady shout. Not much (if any) trophy success, but they’re huge figures in their clubs modern day history.
Suso.
And Aspas
Iago Aspas
Can't forget Luis Alberto, seems to be balling out at Lazio right now
Sterling that absolute snake
No idea how I forgot about him good one
Don’t forget how some shite news gimmicks say salah is using liverpool to leverage his way to real madrid where he can finally become a ‘big star’
Diego Forlan and Gerard Pique
Uh Ronaldo lmao
Good shout. Forlan was a beast at Atletico for sure. Pique's record speaks for itself.
Forlan was the first one that came to mind. I think Jonny Evans had also gone on to do quite well after leaving United.
Salah, KDB, arguably Mata but I forgot if we sold these guys or they left
You sold Mata but De Bruyne and Salah left at the end of their contracts I think.
Nope, all 3 were sold
Alonso, Suarez, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Mascherano, Sterling. Basically if you're Spanish and you leave Liverpool you're probably going to kill it.
Unless you're Torres at Chelsea hahaha
He did win everything he didn’t win at Liverpool once he left!!!! One of two players (Mata) to hold the European Championship, Champions League, World Cup and Europa League all at the same time.
He was successful at Chelsea lmao he just wasn't a success at Chelsea
Salah
Edin Dzeko for Mancity, Leroy Sane too but it was obvious.
Jadon sancho and Harrison
For us I’d honestly say James Tarkowski or Stuart Dallas. Both were good for us, but at their next clubs turned it up a notch. Watkins, Benhrama, and Maupay are good, but not sure if they have evolved to the next level at their new club.
Given your business model seems slightly ironic that the 2 players you listed were sold for peanuts and the ones you turned a decent profit on aren’t.
Sooner or later, Donny Van De Beek will be on this list
Florian thauvin I think that's how you spell it he was a huge flop at newcastle but did very well when he moved back to France.
Gini wijnaldum for me, went and won the league and CL
Yeah can't argue with him. I'm hearing he might be coming back for a loan which I'd love.
Gareth Barry
Kante & Mahrez. Bloody miss those guys
Luka Modric is my favorite player that left Spurs and went on to bigger things.
Great round up mate. Hard to go past Rio to be honest.... One of the best ever in the EPL era.
Gnabry….
Wijnaldum
Nottingham Forest Fan. In recent memory its got to be Matty Cash going to Villa. Guy is owing it week in week out. Was a class player for us and worth alot more than what we sold him for in the end. Also got players like Michael Dawson and Andy Reid who did eventually come back.

Bale, Modric, Carrick, Ndombele ($oon)
Kyle Walker
Trippier
Sheringham, Berbatov
Jennings
Haller. Is the main one I can think of for us, I’d say Payet, but if anything he’s dropped off a bit since leaving us.
He plays well for a big team in a smaller league, no regrets to be honest, just didn't fit despite being a decent player. The 90's 2000's with Carrick, Joe Cole, Lampard, Defoe, Rio Ferdinand etc are more relevant.
Leicester’s 15-16 side is short Mahrez, Kante, Chilwell, Gray, and Kramaric
Chillwells a dodgy one cos he was still basically a youth player then
Most recently, Ander Herrera. Don’t know why we got rid of him.
Wages
Criminal. His performance against Chelsea while marking hazard 100% of the game and bagging an assist and a goal should have cemented him in the squad.
And he had more passion for the club than anyone has been showing lately.
I'm not disagreeing with you but hindsight 20/20
As a Leeds fan this fucking hurt.
Rio and Frank are the obvious ones.
Suarez, Xabi Alonso, mascherano, Danny ings and aspas might be good shouts, even Coady and gulasci
Suso and that other Spanish fellow that Rodgers brought who's name I can't remember too.
Robertson to Liverpool jumps to mind
Suarez is a good example
Ronaldo. Probably one of the most successful player in world football
Antonio Valencia Fuck you Manchester United Fuck you
Jerome Boateng has probably had the most successful career since leaving City that I can remember
Dzeko maybe?
Ronaldo
Lukaku did well I'm his time at United, then dominates in Italy.
My favorite growing up was Modric, gutted when he forced a move.
Haller
Easily cesc
Just trying to picture a Chelsea side with Salah and De Bruyne in it.
Stupid suarez Liverpool --> Barcelona
It's a list for most clubs. It's a mad rant for Arsenal. How many players have they sold who've gone on to win trophies elsewhere?
At least we made some good money out of most of the players above. Danny Rose, Fabian Delph, Alan Smith, Jermain Beckford in many ways annoyed me more as we were forced to sell them on the cheap or let them go for free because of our position. Haller
He he he Siuuu
Fucking Gnabry
Wijnaldum > Liverpool Ba > Chelsea Cabaye > PSG Ben Arfa > Released Gazza > Tottenham
Gary Mcallister, Leicester to Leeds.
Salah, debruyne, lukaku, Tammy, tomori, Robben, livramento, lamptey, Declan rice, mata sorta, David luiz sorta, morata sorta thank god he left though.
Given Mata's 2 exemplary seasons with Chelsea, I won't exactly brand him a success at Utd. He's primarily been on the fringes there
Charly Musonda coming up the list next. Hudson Odoi too. Absolutely comical.
Haller.
Forlan
Salah and de bruyne. I dont think anyone can top over this two.
Haller....
Jordan Henderson
Aaron lennon & Danny rose for Leeds too
Kramaric! Been an absolute beast for Hoffenheim.
Pogba
Agree on jota?
Iago Aspas
Winjaldum
Pique 🤦🏼♂️
As a Chelsea fan I don't think I have to answer this question.
We've had a few of these recently at Wolves, first ones which come to mind are Pedro Goncalves and Vitinha. Rio ferdinand, if only we didn't need to build a new stand.

Ryan sessegon😂 Jk Harvey Elliott is showing a lot of promise for Liverpool
Christian Eriksen: O.B. to Ajax
Gnabry
Hallier, payet, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand, jermaine defoe, Frank lampard, tevez, macherano ect. I can't even imagine what west ham would have been if they had kept all those players during their heydays
Not a recent one but Chris Sutton was one of our main forward threats in the inaugural premier league season where we finished 3rd. He went on to sign and then win the premier league with Blackburn Rovers
Cristiano Ronaldo
Robin Van Persi to UTD.
Southampton could make a World XI out of theirs
Trippier, Walker are the two that come to mind. Wish we could get them back
Southampton supporters must be aggrieved by all the talent they have lost over the years
Hello there
Modric Still was a beast tho
Gerard Pique
Andy Cole
I’m not sure
Barry, Milner and Young. Downing to an extent. Basically built the England midfield for a couple of tournaments. Also scattered over the years: Gana/Gueye, Yorke, Platt, Albrighton.
Tevez Ronaldo Evans Stam Neville Beckham Forlan Pique Howard Hernandez Heinze
Dwight Yorke who almost had a manager put a shotgun to his head when he said he wanted to go to Man Utd. Went on to win everything at Club level. Including being part of the famous duo in the treble season.
Sancho meh Sané is doing decent
Chelsea everyone
Gnabry & Szczesny.
arsenal. serge gnabry
I wish we kept Jota
Wijnaldum, although I think he'd do better if he stayed at Liverpool
Basically every no 7 from my club.
I don’t see any Southampton fans on here, but they probably have a few names.
Sanchez - Won Serie A with Inter
