{Mutually Beneficial by Heather Guerre} It starts off kind of rocky, but it really is such a good book. He's got PTSD and some serious issues caused by an ex and the relationship starts off a bit of blackmailish/transactional.

xisaloser

Also “Hot Blooded” by Heather Guerre. Her MCs are usually so sweet and touch-starved and loving, and Amos is a *perfect* example of that.

ShiGyrrl

I'll put it on my TBR, for sure!

Fowatza

Such a good book. I think Captivated by Eve Dangerfield and Tessa Bailey has similar vibes (CW for that one: Consensual non-consent).

Purrsifoney

{Unloved by Kate Regnery} has a recluse MMC that is the son of a serial killer and has been away from society most of his life. He’s worried that he might turn into his father because of their genetics and he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. He’s touched starved and lonely and an absolute sweetheart.

Lockjaw_Puffin

I feel the need to warn anyone about to read the book: There's a plot twist that cheapens the whole "You are not the sum of your parent's genes" thread that runs throughout the story. >!The MMC was not actually born to a serial killer - he was born to normal parents and "switched at birth" with the actual son of a serial killer!<

Purrsifoney

>!I really disliked that aspect as well. I should’ve put that in my comment as I was spoiled before going in (I read it in a review before reading the book), but I was able to enjoy the book for the writing and the characters. But the decision to add that plot twist really cheapened the whole book.!<

laundry_pirate

I thought the same, such a stupid twist on an otherwise good book.

AshenHaemonculus

Boooooo. Lame. What a copout.

prettysureIforgot

Oh, that's some bullshit. I was going to read this one day. Not anymore.

Stillreading2323

I have been meaning to read this but the book has dead fiance which I kind of avoid. Could you tell me if the dead lover trope is glossed over or if the hero looks second best?

laundry_pirate

Not the comment OP but from what I remember she deeply cared about her dead fiancé but starts to realize that they might not have worked out due to their different lifestyles. The mmc definitely doesn’t come out as second best imo and we get to know him a lot more than dead fiancé guy.

Stillreading2323

Thank you so much for answering! I am definitely going to give it a try now! I thought she would get a hard time getting over her ex. Thanks for clearing that up!

thegirlofravens

I think Archer's Voice and Savage by Mia Sheridan both has these tropes

Several_Champion_370

There was a [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/RomanceBooks/comments/rguf4o/touchstarved_heroes/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) about this a while ago with a bunch of great recommendations as well.

npalhs

I liked the concept of {Twice Shy} because the MMC ended up being a deprived (plus virgin) young man who couldn't even accept a compliment. It was a beautiful (somewhat vanilla) story of how trust was built between two individuals.

xsugaryspice

I recently read twice shy and it was amazing! I wanted to find a book with that general feeling when I made this post

Prestigious_Sky4049

Maybe you'd like Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon

PennywiseSkarsgard

Also from this author, Dance with the devil. Kenyon tends to create MMC with bad pasts who don´t know love.

RisaReader

Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan is really good, and like the kind of good where I’m not going to spoil anything

babynursebb

{Feral King by Sorcha Black} It’s dark and bdsm and tons of trigger warnings. Mmc is a recluse with history of spoiler: >!CSA!< . He thinks he’s like a sociopath and has a hard time around people. He literally doesn’t want to be touched.

iuliad94

What is >!CSA!

babynursebb

Sorry. >!Child Sex Abuse… he was abused at a young age and then abandoned when he started acting out as a result. It’s a very dark premise but it makes him such a sympathetic character and by the end you’re so glad to see the growth he has. It’s tastefully done, I think. Like he sees a psychiatrist and his thoughts go through his actions being motivated by fear of abandonment and ptsd-like flashbacks and black outs. It starts off as just a smutty kinky book but it really delves into some dark and deep stuff!<

iuliad94

Ah, thank you for explaining!

Not quite showering the MMC with sweetness, but I feel like {Duke in Darkness by Nicola Davidson} and {To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn} fit this description. I loved both of those.

In Fall, there's >!birth of a stillborn and two rape attempts!<. In STB, I truly don't remember anything sensitive.
