Hmmm, yes, a "potentially world class" young manager, or an already world class experienced manager... Tough decision there...
Both teams have an average age of 25 too which is pretty funny actually. They forget that our more senior players are Kane, Son, Lloris. There’s are Lacca, Auba, and Xhaka 😂
I'd quite like Saka and Martinelli. A few others would add depth. Ransdale would be a good Hugo replacement but fuck the rest.
Oh there’s no doubting they have some good players, but their fans think they’re a lot better than they are after a stretch of good games. It’ll crumble like every other time
I’m not sure if I want Liverpool to smack them around and let the inevitable backslide start, or for them to catch a buzz by having a good (albeit still a loss) match against Liverpool and buzzing coming into thNLd only for us to give them a right paddlin’ and thus start the inevitable backslide.
Idk have we been beaten by Nottingham Forest in the past decade?
You did lose to farmers. Nottingham Forrest are atleast full time
Yeah but kids will learn. Arsenal may not have from 2018.
Yay! A Gooner! Glad to have you here little one 😘
Have fun basking, but remember you can do the same in r/gunners
Like when you've finished below us for the past 5 years
>but fuck the rest.
ESR and Ødegaard arent looking too shabby.
Esr yes. The rest as depth.
Bruh, just no
Thanks for the butthurt downvote tho
He's wrong. I don't think even ESR plays in our strongest team.
No downvote from me. I don't care enough about strangers opinions for that shit. We were just chatting imo.
I do upvote if it makes me laugh or is a picture of a dog or mention ledley or moussa.
Hugo being 35 drastically raises our's as well. Next oldest is Doherty I think.
Hugo being old, but one of the best around, completely negates their idea that we have an old squad. If we have a world class/near world class player at 35, and he's the only one in their 30s, you don't have a leg to stand on.
Why do I feel like he would right something like this so that down the line, should the scum sign Vlahovic, they can say they stole him out from under Spurs?.....
There's literally not even a post about this
if he wants 300k a week do we even want him
There's no way we (or likely anyone else) actually offer him that, I'm sure some other compromise will be reached.
He knows he is very in demand and has a lot of negotiating power close to 300k wouldn’t surprise me
He is the third most in demand forward that’s available in the world after all.
Only makes sense as a Kane replacement
Rumours say arsenal are
300k just feels like bargaining tactics tbh. Like how you start off with a high bid and start going down in regular negotiation
What I’m thinking is he’ll want at least the Ndombele wage (200k) but that’s just my thoughts
wasn't it 300k p/w before tax? I read somewhere on here that equates to 160k p/w after tax, which is still a lot for a 21 year old striker who has yet to prove himself in the PL
I mean he does have the upper hand in negotiations right now. We want to secure him a deal so we can get him asap summer, but other parties are planning to lineup in summer with more cash involved.
So he’s technically has more power rn if we want to do a deal now for the summer.
Realistically yes you would be correct though
He's no Ndombele. He's a guy who shows up early, works very hard and every coach who talks about him has only praised him. The guy is just a goal machine. I think his number only skyrocket in the prem. Conte probably already knows how he'll play him within the squad. It's going to be epic.
Is he worth 300 no, but I think it will be close to 220 which he's 100% worth.
i read somewhere yesterday that someone took a more likely 160k a week and then added taxes on top of it to assume he would be on a base 300k a week.
No shot he goes from 26k a week to 300k after two good seasons in serie a.
This is an issue for management.
Are we football fans or fucking accountants?
Let's get him in.
Do you think this whole saga with Ndombele would matter if he was making 70k a week instead of the same as Kane?
It's all connected and worth chatting about at least, doesn't mean I'm diving into the financials of Spurs
Fans that can’t understand or appreciate the financials involved are thick as fuck. It will end up impacting the team in some way which every fan should care about
Not really. I'd just prefer to spend my time enjoying the football than thinking about the money.
Daniel Levy is more than capable of managing the club and its finances.
Damn naive too? Signing a 21 year old with 2 years experience in Serie A to a record contract for the club will massively disrupt the wage bill and probably negatively impact the dressing room. Now picture for a minute that he struggles off the jump like every single striker we’ve signed in the last decade has done and the knock on effect that has with fans, media, etc. Feel free to enjoy the football in your own way but ignoring financials and saying it doesn’t have any impact is just kinda silly to me.
Excuse me but I've never said it doesn't have an impact just that we can all enjoy the football without worrying about it. Not like we get a say in who gets brought and why anyway, I just want some entertainment.
There is truth to both of your points, I see what you are saying Billy about just enjoying the football.. as thats what we are really all here to do.
At the same time though this is the era we are living in and at least some of the financials like player wages tend to be a topic of discussion for most fans. Maybe its just something to talk about with your favourite club if nothing else
The point is Levy is doing the managing of finances by not just buying every expensive player. People forget we can go on a spending spree, but it doesnt make fiscal sense due to the self sustaining model vs oil money
You don't need to be an accountant to see why making him our top earner might upset players like Son and Kane who are without a doubt better players
Can't blame him for wanting to value himself highly, he's got to believe he's worth a lot.
If we get a Champions League spot there's a good chance Vlahovic will turn up in N17. It's that important.
It’s important for a lot of reasons. It would give us the financial boost we’d need to buy players like him, as well as attract the high level players we need to fill the other holes in our team. And it probably doesn’t do any harm in terms of keeping people like Kane and Conte
You think levy will pay 300k a week to him lol
If he holds out for 300k and a club stumps up the readies they'll be welcome to him
North London postal code i believe, Spurs specific
Ah ok. Thanks
if this somehow happens i will never doubt don levy again
You should have never doubted him to begin with.
May I remind you of our absolute shambles of a manager search in the summer and plenty questionable transfer policy decisions over his tenure. Phenomenal businessman, very far from no criticism on the footballing side
Not if you ask me. We disconnected from being an Everton and Villa-equivalent type of club to a CL one, while the others never reached that height, not even close, and we continue to be a serious top 4-challenging side.
Yes there were the Lamela’s and Soldado’s with Bale money.
But there were also the Redknapp’s, Pochettino’s, VDV’s, Bale and Modric, Berbatov, up to last summer where he was determined to keep our superstar striker to no longer seem like a small feeder club.
Man’s a Fkn legend if you ask me. In mid 2000’s we were equal with Everton and Villa. Now Everton are batting relegation, never got top 4, and Villa were so bad they spent time in the Championship and have made it into a European competition twice since Levy took over.
Some fair points however I must say comparing our football success to others mediocrity or stagnation is not a great yard stick. We’ve taken a long time to get to our high point under his tenure and it slipped away very quickly. You could also flip it on its head and analyse this based on our very own motto, “the game is about glory” and we’ve only had one moment of glory in his tenure. Before ENIC we had won 23 major trophies if I’m not mistaken(I know the 90s were horrendous), since then we have won 1 in 21 years. If my maths is right, we have delivered 4x less trophies than expected based on our own history. No matter what angle you look at it, it’s not great reading.
Personally, winning things like the league cup or FA cup but finishing 12th in the league never did it for me.
Must be an English thing, because I much rather see us play Barcelona and Real Madrid in the world’s most prestigious competition, than beat Bradford City in the semifinals of a domestic cup and then get lucky in the 1 game that’s left for some cup the rest of the world doesn’t give a shit about.
Also, it slipped very quickly? It’s 2 years, he took over 19 years ago. Have some perspective. We look more likely to finish 4th this year than anyone else, anyway.
I get your point but I don’t think it’s just an English thing. It’s how players will look back at their careers. Winning a trophy no matter cements the legacy of a team.
We talk about how great Poch’s team were (and my lord were they great) but they won nothing. We went toe to toe with some of the best teams in the world, fought all odds to escape a group of death, played Juventus off the park bar a late sub, came within a whisker of winning the league. We were so so close to that team winning something significant and having a dynasty.
But it didn’t happen. That team began to crumble and then got knocked to the floor one too many times after losing the CL that we never got back up. The rest is history.
A lot of those players will look at that time with fond memories but they will always have the regret that they didn’t win anything at the peak of their career surrounded by other great players at their peak.
If we’d even won a League Cup win around that time, which was totally winnable, we’d look back on that time without a tinge of disappointment.
Echoes of glory though 😃
I don’t look back at it with any disappointment. It was amazing, we played great football, we had team unison and a great manager.
I’m not English? Anyway, the fact of the matter is that history remembers the victors that’s how it is. Also it’s literally our motto, if you don’t agree with that then you don’t agree with our motto, which is odd to say the least. There’s a reason why Bill Nicholson is still so widely regarded 60 years on, because he won trophies. We are a club that should be and have historically won trophies, no ifs or buts.
Yeah it’s been a pretty steep downhill since the champions league final, not sure how you can deny that? I wouldn’t say we are anymore obvious top 4 contenders than any of the others
Birmingham City won the league cup more recently than we did. How many people around the world remember that? Fuck all nobody.
How many people remember our CL semifinal against Ajax? A good percentage of football supporters around the globe.
Each to their own but I just can’t get on board with that type of mentality when it comes to sports, it’s about winning to me no matter how it comes about. Maybe it is a culture thing as you say
hahaha, i honestly completely forgot about the whole anderson saga
I responded to the wrong comment sorry mate
I just don’t see us shelling out the money that is rumored. I’d love to have him but we can certainly use that money more wisely. Probably could get two people for the same cost at positions that need immediate starters.
I think the plan is to play him in a starting role. I think Conte is going to play him with Kane and Son. I don't know how he's going to make it work. But I trust the maestro to do so,
Ah yes is that the hopium starting to hit?
[Though hopefully if it happens its not for ridiculous wages]
So how are we going to fit in both Kane and Vlahovic in the starting 11?
I imagine it’s a front 3 of him Kane and Son, with the positions being reasonably fluid
Kanes in goal
Exciting times! Will Gollini do well as backup and Hugo in the creative midfield role that we so badly need?
Jeez. Who is worse, Kane trying to stop a shot or Hugo trying to pass?
3-5-2 with Kane at 10 and son + dusan duo
Kane in a creative-first role wildly excites me.
3-5-2. Son and Adama as WBs, Kane and Dusan up top. All attack, all the time.
Son is our best player. No way he goes to LWB
Lol that explains nothing. So 3 up front with Vlahovic on the wings? 🤣
Yup. Left footed RF, Right Footed LF and two footed CF.
Son is more two footed than Kane
5 3 2 defending
3 5 2 attacking
And where would Son be fielded when we’re attacking? Or even defending for that matter.
Son's in the front 2 with Dusan as target man. Kane plays the 10. Sometimes the forwards make wide runs to allow Kane to run up the middle
Kane as a 10 maybe?
Tbf with the Brazillian comment he was talking about Edu
LOL. What a clown
Seems mad, but having Kane as an actual 10 would not be so ludicrous if we get Vlahovic to be our main striker. He has the vision and has shown on multiple occasions to get the ball in desirable places. We'd just need him to improve his set pieces to be the creative mid fielder we're desperately lacking.
Regardless of if it's Vlahovic or another top striker/player, we NEED to make top 4 and secure champions league football this season so Conte can get the players he want this summer
Sent all the blood straight to my dick
Does not compute. First part doesn't connect with the second one.
edit: oof guys, didn't read source. Thought it was Spurs centric.
It’s from an Arse perspective, so we’re the rivals
Ah, ok. Didn't get that.
That's what excites me... We weren't the audience for this.
The stuff about him turning down Arsenal before felt a bit like easy clickbait for spurs fans but this feels different.
that wasn't "just" for spurs supporters
Where it says he might join Arsenal's north London rivals (us)?
Yeah it does, says that Paratici had a close relationship with Vlahovic agents and that sources suggest a move is potentially on for him to come to us
I dont even really want him tbh. But if we beat arsenal to it it'd be satisfying lol
don't even want him Scamacca is where it's at
Scamacca is this subreddits new Andersen. One spurs personality decides they like him and everyone piles on.
The dude is 23 and has scored 16 goals in first divisions his whole career. Don’t care what fbref says Vlahovic is miles better if attainable it’s not even a decision
who tf is this spurs personality?
Random Spurs twitter account brings up prospect of him, then more do until everyone is convinced they should want the player. Happens all the time in football fanbases nowadays. Cult mentality
He is over a year older than Vlahovic and is substantially worse, but like Andersen people decide they want him and then won’t change their mind unfortunately.
Anyone think this could be contingent on Kane leaving?
Normally I'd say yes but there was a post on here recently saying Levy flew to the Bahama's for talks with Joe Lewis over budgets etc. Maybe the Stadium naming rights need signing off, maybe there is a little bit of ££ we can dig out from proverbial sofa. I'm just guessing but there is a chance Kane doesn't have to leave for this signing to happen.
I rate this news 9/10 of boxes of Penne.
The Arsenal fans are going to cry so much ahahaha.
Wheatley is a bs merchant. Edu was at the FA Cup game.
If he’s really stuck on 300k/wk and 15M for his family/hangers-on/whoever, then……let’s just say that Levy won’t exactly be rummaging is his kitchen junk drawer for his checkbook.
(What? That’s not where you keep yours?)
This signing makes absolutely no sense at all.
I want to sign him but it's way too much money to gamble
He's going to City or Juventus. If we ever had a chance of signing him, it's gone now
Would be our biggest signing since….? Ndombigmacballer. But not shite!
Please let me cum already
