He could if he just buys the limited edition super duper introduction pack, which is actually worth $1.7 billion in assests, but for the 2 hours, it's only $3.99!
Same reason PC / console games don't look like in cinematic trailers. Requires effort and what not, while ad's purpose is just to get you to click, download and pay.
Edit: since some people misunderstood my point for bashing PC / consoles games or cinematic trailers, or for me trying to say it's the same thing - no, that was only an example and my point was the *reason* one looks great and the other less so is because it requires different kinds of effort. Main difference that I didn't (feel like I need to) point out is cinematic trailers have purpose and are not exactly ads, while mobile games ads are, and are often deceitful and the industry in general is very predatory.
I mean PC / Consoles don't generally use a Cinematic trailer as a gameplay trailer. At most you get "In Engine" trailers which are still pretty close to the game.
These Mobile adds are literally taking the time to create a false advertisement in order to sell you fake goods.
I'll never understand it from a game dev perspective or a mobile game advertiser perspective.
The pin pulling/number growing/temple run with math games that's bait and switched would get more attention than these match 3 games, but because the main demographic for mobile games are middle aged women with short attention spans and even shorter dopamine reception Match 3 is all anyone is ever gonna get.
For male mobile games we got Waifu gacha/endless runner/pvp p2w games that i wish weren't as money hungry cash grabs as they are.
Hell one of my favorite earlier mobile games was Jetpack Joyride and before that a shovelware game called Zenonia that got a mobile port and slowly became a really shitty mobile game with each sequel.
At least gameplay trailer for console/pc game give a glimpse on actual gameplay, even though the final product may have downgraded graphics or some feature removed, but the core gameplay is what you're seeing
Mobile game ads on the other hand, the difference between it and the gameplay is like heaven and mariana trench. That pin pulling puzzle? Yeah, that's a match 3 game. The pick a choice as emperor? Yeah, that's just a menu navigation game (you literally just tapping on menus).
I beat both games last summer, and they were very fun. There's also remastered versions of the two games exclusive to Apple Arcade (called "The Spirit of the Mountain" and "The Lost City", for their respective games), which is a shame because I have an Android
Hey, I have apple arcade. You aren't missing out on a ton. Granted I still love them but Spirit of the Mountain especially isn't that much a difference. But it does take save files from games on the original games... Pretty cool!
I completely forgot about these games. Such a good time. First time I've ever downloaded something cuz of a reddit comment! I'm not sure how to proceed but you deserve something for that so... have this?
Man I miss the good old days… there were so many good online pvp games, now it’s just cheap arcade games built for in app purchase farming
I miss battle bears, call of mini, star warfare alien invasion, edit: shout out to infinity blade and shadow fight as well… mobile gaming really is dead and buried, huh? -_-
It was on an old tablet connected to an email I don't even remember. Tried getting an APK online and when I booted it up it said that it couldn't connect to the Google play store.
I know it wasn't *too* long ago but remember the Flappy Bird craze?
Shit that got crazy. People were selling phones for hundreds of dollars because it had it installed.
O my fucking god thank you ive been trying to find battle bears for years i played it when i was younger and forgot the name and always tried to find it thank you
Idk i would say destiny child is great. It has transactions but they are really totally optional with the way the game is extremely generous, but good games are really rare indeed
If you like Railroad Tycoon games, Deckeleven's Railroads 2 has a good introductory set of levels. You have to pay for the later expansions, but you can get a good amount of enjoyment from just the free levels and the "sandbox" which randomly generates a level for you.
This is one of those games that's good to pick up for a few, once you get further in it's a bit addicting. This and a few others is one of those games where i HAVE to install
I just play Bejeweled. It's infuriating how many people tell me it's just Candy Crush. Like, sit down and shut up, you little shit, Bejeweled is the original, Candy Crush is just a shitty knockoff.
Note 20 ultra with snapdragon apu still handles it well. Exynos has been stomped into the dirt for a long time in gaming performance, but the last few years it even sucks on the other fronts as well.
It happens so often, too. Like nobody fucking understands what something related to your work called a "PMD" or some shit is in a random ass generic ask Reddit thread.
I completely understand and feel the same way, but I guess in this particular context it's fine? Since the abbreviation is used heavily by the game in marketing and such and googling BTD6 will absolutely point you to the game immediately.
About five years ago I completed a bunch of the offers for premium currency. Including one for a service where you put in your tastes and pay some money, then they’ll send you a customized box of different wines.
Yeah.
Somehow almost as cheap as just buying premium currency, and I got wine.
I remember pulling Aphrodite and the SCP cat with the long legs. Was a fun game back in the day, but ultimately lacked variety
Shattered Pixel Dungeon is great. It's free (edit: maybe? Can't remember tbh) but I bought the supporter packs (just gives cosmetic stuff) because this is the way mobile gaming should be done.
I got mindustry to have something to play while travelling on a vacation and got MASSIVELY into it, wound up downloading it for PC when I got back home and played it for dozens more hours.
Pixel dungeon is the one game I have never deleted from my phone, and consistently go back to every now and then. Had it for years. Completely free. No forced ads. Tonnes of replayabiilty and tricks to learn.
Astounding example of what a good game is.
Is the ad system any comparable to hill climb racing 2 where you *can* watch ads for small benefits but don't actually have to watch any ads if you don't want to?
I've been hooked too but I wish the energy usage wasn't so terrible. Total 20 when full and every level start uses 5, I get they want you to pay but it doesn't even refill when you level up like literally any other game I've ever played with a cost to start a level.
> same genre as hearthstone
But also 1000000x more F2P friendly. Honestly, LoR may be THE most F2P friendly mobile game ever.
Haven’t played in a while but every time I go back to it I’m reminded of how good that game is, even if you’re not into LoL lore.
You should try a little platformer called Nameless Cat, is beautiful and pretty fun but a bit challenging, so be aware that you're going to take your time in some levels
WorldBox is pretty fun, can nurture multiple civilizations of different races or make them survive in a hell scape till one race and nation is the last one standing.
Yepyep. I like hopping on clash of clans every once in a while, queue up some buildings and forget about it for a while. Or if I feel like grinding I can always farm mats for my walls or play an alt.
I mean, Clash of Clans and Boom Brach are still solid. I never really got into Hay Day, and Clash Royale just got several updates making it a lot more P2W than before so maybe not that one.
Yeah I've been f2p for years - had I not started when I did, I'd have quit pretty early on. With the recent changes the distance to climb to competitive levels is so out of reach.
It’s not a hard game, if you’re into the overworld exploration that’s what you’ll be in for 75% of the time playing. 20% will be doing cool visual novel story quests, then the last 5% is actually utilizing optimized builds for somewhat difficult content.
This game is ao large in both file size and regular-updated content/event, it is hard to be consider as just a mobile game anymore.
It also comes with a bonus feature to turn your mobile device into a hand warmer, very considerate for players living in colder climate. /s
Of course I play my Genshin Impact on my PC because it is easier to aim while I am using my Ganyu.
Some of my personal favorites are Marvel Snap, CoD Mobile, Soul Knight, and FE Heroes. I don't play mobile games (except snap) much but these always give me a good time.
I mean...
Minecraft
Terraria
Chess
Balloons TD 6
Balloons battles 2
Stardew Valley
Monopoly
OSRS
Temple run
Bejeweled Classic
Mindusry
Interstellar Pilot
Galaxy on fire 2
Oh, you mean games that released in 2023?
You're f*cked.
The actual good games (Stardew Valley, Minecraft, etc.) I don't like because I don't like touch screen controls and it feels too cramped on my phones screen.
My current (iOS)mobile games:
- Among Us
- Bloons TD5
- Call of Duty
- Candy Crush Saga
- Clash Mini
- Clash of Clans
- Crossy Road
- Cut the Rope
- Fruit Ninja
- Hungry Shark
- Jetpack Joyride
- Minecraft
- Plague Inc.
- Plants Vs Zombies (the original. 2nd one sucks imo)
- Smash Hit
- Solitaire
- Steppy Pants
- Subway Surfers
- Sudoku
- Tiny Tower
- Word Cookies
Games I think about on the daily that I miss:
- Expando
- Flappy Bird
I don’t know why they can’t just make them like they appear in the ads…
Well, because they have to make the game easier for the public, as only 1% of people can solve the ones in the ads.
Well it’s true. Not even Albert Einstein could beat those mobile games
He could if he just buys the limited edition super duper introduction pack, which is actually worth $1.7 billion in assests, but for the 2 hours, it's only $3.99!
>actually worth $1.7 billion in assests, but for the 2 hours, it's only $3.99! I see this bs all the time.

For real tho I looked for over an hour the other night then just downloaded chess
W mans Also are you new to chess or how long have you been playing?
New I've always kinda known how to play but recently I've been getting into it.
What’s your rating? Maybe we could play.

Don't worry, r/Anarchychess is working on it!
Slay the spire
WorldBox
I love watching my humans kill each other
That moment when your favourite empire takes over the entire map
Indeed
thank you for uncovering this memory
I had a blast with Alto's Adventure and Alto's Odysse
I only ever played alto's adventure.
Based
Alkalined
I beat both games last summer, and they were very fun. There's also remastered versions of the two games exclusive to Apple Arcade (called "The Spirit of the Mountain" and "The Lost City", for their respective games), which is a shame because I have an Android

Just found Alto's adventure a month ago and I love it
Badland is the best one of the hundreds I've tried
You reminded me Crashlands exists and I thank you for it.
Man I miss the good old days… there were so many good online pvp games, now it’s just cheap arcade games built for in app purchase farming I miss battle bears, call of mini, star warfare alien invasion, edit: shout out to infinity blade and shadow fight as well… mobile gaming really is dead and buried, huh? -_-
I miss NOVA 3. Great game..
You can still download it if you did it before from the library
It was on an old tablet connected to an email I don't even remember. Tried getting an APK online and when I booted it up it said that it couldn't connect to the Google play store.
Call of mini went crazy
I know it wasn't *too* long ago but remember the Flappy Bird craze? Shit that got crazy. People were selling phones for hundreds of dollars because it had it installed.
Hate to break to ya, but that was a whole ass decade ago lol
Inconceivable.gif
Battle bears and Star Alien were so cool 😭😭
Computer games and computer became more accessible and cheaper so who wouldn’t want to play an AAA game on a big screen
O my fucking god thank you ive been trying to find battle bears for years i played it when i was younger and forgot the name and always tried to find it thank you
Dead cells
TIL this was on mobile
This and Vampire Survivors
Vamlire Survivors is my shit!
yep agree with that one, that and terraria
I'll add to this list with Slay the Spire
The only good mobile games are the ones you pay upfront for and have no MTX. They are few and far between.
Vampire Survivors has an official Android port. Dunno about iOS.
The best mobile games I have are all ports of good PC games
Idk i would say destiny child is great. It has transactions but they are really totally optional with the way the game is extremely generous, but good games are really rare indeed
Oldschool Runescape :-)
If you like Railroad Tycoon games, Deckeleven's Railroads 2 has a good introductory set of levels. You have to pay for the later expansions, but you can get a good amount of enjoyment from just the free levels and the "sandbox" which randomly generates a level for you.
Soul knight
This is one of those games that's good to pick up for a few, once you get further in it's a bit addicting. This and a few others is one of those games where i HAVE to install
This game is starting to reach Binding of Isaac levels of complexity
Has it changed that much? I remember playing that like 5 years ago
Coming from someone who also played it years and years ago, it definitely has. I'd suggest giving it a download and checking it out again
Really sick guns and fighting
Hell ya dude local multiplayer through Bluetooth is amazing.
And online co-op is on beta
They should finish that. That'd be so cool
Oh my god, finally someone else who knows about Soul Knight
The highly successful game?
Omg somebody else who knows english!
The highly successful language?
I just play Bejeweled. It's infuriating how many people tell me it's just Candy Crush. Like, sit down and shut up, you little shit, Bejeweled is the original, Candy Crush is just a shitty knockoff.
PopCap Games is high on the list of great publishers who EA murdered right in front of us.
I read this in a Jordan Peterson voice for some reason
Up yours woke candy crushists
I used to love bejeweled when I was little
the bejeweled twist ost truly is a hidden GEM haha omg im so funny
BTD6 is pretty fun Edit) BTD6 is bloons tower defense 6 for those wondering Edit) how did I get 1.2k upvotes in under 24 hours wft
Very fun, but my phone will implode
It gets to a point it becomes a MOAB lag machine.
Note 20 ultra with snapdragon apu still handles it well. Exynos has been stomped into the dirt for a long time in gaming performance, but the last few years it even sucks on the other fronts as well.
On round 175 it will become a slideshow no matter how powerful your phone is...
Bitches Turd Dominator 6
r/ using abbreviation without explaination
It's balloons tower defense. But fuck I hate abbreviations out of context too.
It happens so often, too. Like nobody fucking understands what something related to your work called a "PMD" or some shit is in a random ass generic ask Reddit thread.
The US military people are by far the biggest acronym culprits.
Ah the old Purple Monkey Dishwasher
*Bloons
I completely understand and feel the same way, but I guess in this particular context it's fine? Since the abbreviation is used heavily by the game in marketing and such and googling BTD6 will absolutely point you to the game immediately.
r/ntbdbiwdfta Like this?
The Battle Cats I have currently 550 hours, including 6 years for my one and only save. I am currently in end game content and never spent a buck.
I LOVE battle cats

Battle cat gang
Shattered pixel dungeon and mindustry are pretty good. No ads either. Plus theres an in game modding thing in mindustry.
Shattered Pixel Dungeon is great. It's free (edit: maybe? Can't remember tbh) but I bought the supporter packs (just gives cosmetic stuff) because this is the way mobile gaming should be done.
Yup, and they just released a new character. I bought the silver tier, which was just cosmetics. Hugely deserved.

Mighty doom just came out and it's good
I'm just getting going and it's pretty good. Ads are easy to avoid and the gameplay is a well made bullet hell.
Is the ad system any comparable to hill climb racing 2 where you *can* watch ads for small benefits but don't actually have to watch any ads if you don't want to?
There are ads for poor rewards, but there are no required ads and nothing interrupts gameplay
I've been hooked too but I wish the energy usage wasn't so terrible. Total 20 when full and every level start uses 5, I get they want you to pay but it doesn't even refill when you level up like literally any other game I've ever played with a cost to start a level.
I mostly play wild rift and hearthstone. I also play some tower defense games sometimes.
Have you tried Legends of Runeterra, same universe of league of legends, same genre as hearthstone. Just wondering
> same genre as hearthstone But also 1000000x more F2P friendly. Honestly, LoR may be THE most F2P friendly mobile game ever. Haven’t played in a while but every time I go back to it I’m reminded of how good that game is, even if you’re not into LoL lore.
Maybe Data Wing?
I have completed it.. feels so good right. Loved it.
It’s such a special game. It’s near perfect imo.
Geometry dash
I scrolled down so much looking for this comment
Bruh try Vampire Survivors
Omg I love this game! So many things to unlock!!
If you like Vampire Survivors, consider Magic Survival (same genre, different art style, no flashing lights and sounds from chests)
Magic Survival also incidentally came out first. Vampire Survivors is basically a clone lol
You should try a little platformer called Nameless Cat, is beautiful and pretty fun but a bit challenging, so be aware that you're going to take your time in some levels
Cytus II
Stardew Valley
Hell yeah boi! I think it's because it was a PC game first then ported to mobile. Also Slay the Spire is amazing.
Who else read through these comments to find a good game to download
That was the whole point of OP posting this, It boosts engagement
The Battle of Polytopia is a neat little strategy game. My friends and family have played it for years.
Yes! I think we started in like 2018 and then put it down for a couple of years. We just started back up again and are loving it.
Based Polytopia enjoyer
I'm still grinding Egg, Inc. that game goes so hard
Guardian tales ?
I play minesweeper
Most mobile games nowadays:
Ever heard of hill climb racing?
Guardián Tales is pretty nice
BTD6 and Slay the Spire is pretty good but they cost money. Well worth the cost though
WorldBox is pretty fun, can nurture multiple civilizations of different races or make them survive in a hell scape till one race and nation is the last one standing.
Supercell games
Brawl stars and coc are really good rn
scrolled soooooo far for brawl stars lmao wow
Hell yeah.
Yepyep. I like hopping on clash of clans every once in a while, queue up some buildings and forget about it for a while. Or if I feel like grinding I can always farm mats for my walls or play an alt.

Brawl stars is the most f2p game they have till date
CR has been falling off lately tho
Cr devs are assholes Coc and brawl stars devs are the best
I love cock- I mean CoC
Clash Royale is having a mass exodus rn lol
Left the game can't find an excuse to come back. It's a major cash grab
I still play Boom beach once in a while
Soul knight is pretty cool. Same goes for otherworld legends, tho that one just got ported to steam
Brawl stars (sorta) Btd6 Soul knight My singing monsters (if you like grinding) Pokémon go Drag'n'boom Dragon hills Apk's of past decent mobile games
Yo, why is Brawl Stars only sorta? One of the only mobile PvP games out there that is that polished and not excessively P2W
Battle Cats
chess
Recently loaded a Gameboy emulator to my phone and started playing old school Gameboy games
Play some hybrid animals
Battle cats is a great game.
Soul knight and mobile ports for good games like terraria and Stardew valley
Genshin Impact equals downvotes right?
Not all the time lad
thats actually nice to see
Holy shid, reddit being nice challenge: (actually possible?!)
Yeah I'm extremely surprised about that
Just started this a week or so ago. Fairly easy so far, hope it gets more challenging.
It’s not a hard game, if you’re into the overworld exploration that’s what you’ll be in for 75% of the time playing. 20% will be doing cool visual novel story quests, then the last 5% is actually utilizing optimized builds for somewhat difficult content.
Spiral Abyss is pretty much the only thing in the game that requires you to be awake, and maybe TCG
Spiral abyss is the hardest content.
When you get to Inazuma it'll spike a bit if you don't have your team in order
This game is ao large in both file size and regular-updated content/event, it is hard to be consider as just a mobile game anymore. It also comes with a bonus feature to turn your mobile device into a hand warmer, very considerate for players living in colder climate. /s Of course I play my Genshin Impact on my PC because it is easier to aim while I am using my Ganyu.
That storage though. Can’t even play it 😭
I love the game, and it runs far better on my phone than my shitty laptop so
Brawl Stars.
Guardian tales
World box retro bowl and clash of clans that’s all I know
Rocket League Sideswipe
Fallout shelter is great but you probably already played it
Some of my personal favorites are Marvel Snap, CoD Mobile, Soul Knight, and FE Heroes. I don't play mobile games (except snap) much but these always give me a good time.
 The good old days
DBZ Dokkan Battle is pretty good
I mean... Minecraft Terraria Chess Balloons TD 6 Balloons battles 2 Stardew Valley Monopoly OSRS Temple run Bejeweled Classic Mindusry Interstellar Pilot Galaxy on fire 2 Oh, you mean games that released in 2023? You're f*cked.
Pocket God all the way
GTA San Andreas
The actual good games (Stardew Valley, Minecraft, etc.) I don't like because I don't like touch screen controls and it feels too cramped on my phones screen.
Guardian tales. A bit slow, but when you get into the story, OH MAN
Candy Crush, always Candy Crush -Mom
Battle Cats
Pokemon Unite
You should check out terraria mobile, cheap and awesome
Tomb of the Mask
I’m addicted to marvel snap
